Jim has a B.Sc. and
a D.Phil. in Chemistry from the University of York. Before joining Abel &
Imray in 1997 he spent 21 months as Research Assistant at the University of
Durham and 3 years as Senior Research Chemist at National Starch & Chemical
Ltd., working in the areas of natural polymers, polymer synthesis and a range
of industrial applications of water-soluble polymers.
Jim is involved in patent work mainly in the chemical field, with special
expertise in polymer technology, inks and metallocene catalysis, but he also
handles mechanical patent cases, principally relating to batteries. He is
experienced in patent prosecution work in the European Patent Office, as well
as in the UK and overseas. Jim additionally has a significant case load of
opposition and appeal work at the European Patent Office.
He became a Partner in 2002 and is based in the firm's Bath office.
