Mark has an MEng/MA in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of Sheffield. Subsequently he spent one year as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering at Sheffield University. He has taught computational fluid dynamics and MATLAB programming, and he has been a visiting researcher in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of California in Santa Barbara. In his post-graduate and post-doctoral work he gained experience in a number of areas, including fluid dynamics and digital image processing. He has co-authored a number of journal and conference publications, and has acted as a referee for manuscripts submitted to various engineering journals. He is an Associate Member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers, and has a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary, University of London, winning the 2009 Bill Caro prize for best overall result.

Mark qualified as a UK patent attorney in 2010, winning the Gill prize for general excellence in a candidate qualifying for entry on the Register of Patent Attorneys. He is involved in patent drafting and prosecution work in the fields of general and chemical engineering in the UK, Europe and worldwide and has completed a six-month secondment to the in-house patent department of a large multinational company.

Mark joined Abel & Imray in 2007, and is based in the firm’s Bath office.
