Matthew has a B.Sc.
in Physics from Imperial College, London and a Ph.D. in Optoelectronics from
the University of St. Andrews. He is a Chartered Physicist and a member of
various professional bodies including the IEEE and the Optical Society of
America. He has an LL.M. in Intellectual Property Litigation from Nottingham
Law School. He joined Abel & Imray in 1996 and handles both patent and
trade mark work.
He has special expertise in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the
areas of optics (especially lasers, optical fibres and photonic crystals),
telecoms, geophysics, pollution monitoring and mechanical engineering. He has a
special interest in intellectual property litigation and is working towards
qualification as an accredited litigator.
He became a partner in 2002 and is based in the firm's Bath office.
