Matthew has a degree in Chemistry from Oxford University and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Bristol, the latter involving developing new synthetic routes to neurologically-active target compounds from carbohydrate starting materials. During his time at university he gained experience working in the laboratories of a pharmaceutical company and as a process chemist with a substantial UK biotech company. He is a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Matthew has gained invaluable experience in industry working for a substantial period on secondment to the in-house patent department of a major pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare company. His work covers a variety of chemical and mechanical subject matter. He has particular expertise in the pharmaceutical area, where he is extensively involved in drafting and prosecution work worldwide. His patent work also includes biochemistry, printing inks, polymer technology, food technology and packaging. He advises on patent infringement and validity, and is experienced in freedom-to-operate work. Matthew also handles designs work.
Matthew joined the firm in 2002 and is based in the Bath office.
