Tom has a degree in Mathematical Sciences and a
M.Sc. in Mathematics and the Foundations of Computer Science from Oxford
University. He also has a Ph.D. in Computing from Imperial College, University
of London. He is a Member of the British Computer Society, the IEEE Computer
Society and the Association for Computing Machinery. Tom joined the firm in
2001, and became a Partner in 2009.
He handles a variety of computing, electronic and mechanical subject-matter,
with particular technical expertise in the areas of software, internet
applications and programming languages. He has extensive experience of patent
prosecution before the European and UK Patent Offices, and also in other
jurisdictions such as the USA. He advises on European and UK practice relating to
the patentability of computer-related inventions, business methods and related
fields of excluded subject matter. He also has experience of freedom-to-operate
searches, and of UK and European Community registered designs.
Tom is based in the firm’s London office.
